Starting this month, New Jersey American Water said it will invest $5.8 million in new water mains in Morris, Somerset and Union counties.The approximate 20,800 feet of new pipes that are to be replaced were installed as far back as the 1920s.

New Jersey American Water will be working along the following streets:

  • Valley Road from Mountain Avenue to Passaic Avenue in Long Hill;
  • North Finley Avenue, from Orchard Place to Oak Street in Bernards Township;
  • East Oak Street, from Finley Avenue to Maple Avenue in Bernards Township;
  • Central Avenue, from South Street to Springfield Avenue in New Providence.

“With the installation of the new water mains, New Jersey American Water customers should experience increased water flows for residences and fire protection, and continued improvement in reliability,” Thomas Shroba, senior director of operations, North Region, said in a prepared statement. “These water main improvements are part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life.”
