Newsome, a retired rear admiral and former deputy assistant secretary of the U.S. Navy, was most recently vice president and general manager of EDO Reconnaissance and Surveillance Systems, a Morgan Hill, Calif.-based maker of electronic-warfare systems. In addition to his 30-year career with the Navy, Newsome has a doctorate in business administration from Nova Southeastern University.
