Roughly 300 New Brunswick High School students will receive a free smartphone, tablet or hotspot device during the 2017-2018 school year.
The program is meant to target students who wouldn’t otherwise have access to internet devices at home.
“Incorporating technology into the education of all our students is essential in preparing them to be innovators and lifelong learners,” Superintendent of New Brunswick Public Schools Aubrey Johnson said in a prepared statement.
“We’re grateful for the foresight of our technology department and high school staff in seeking out and securing this grant, and for Sprint’s commitment to helping young people learn. Having online access while at home is a tremendously significant educational step forward for students who previously hadn’t enjoyed this advantage.”
The telecommunications company will provide an undefined number of devices through the 1Million Project for a five-year period, based on eligibility.
