New Hardware Standards for Telecom Network Equipment Providers

The MicroTCA Hardware Profile, as it is called, will “help prevent fragmentation in the telecommunications market, reduce development costs, decrease cycle times, and encourage the use of common building blocks,” SCOPE said in a statement. It also put out guidelines for support and services to go with the new standards.

SCOPE today also announced its new officers for 2008. Paul Steinberg of Motorola is its new chairman, and Chris Wardale is the vice-chair. SCOPE was founded in 2006 by Alcatel, Ericsson, Motorola, NEC, Nokia and Siemens.
