Camden-based New Jersey American Water will invest $575,000 in Hillside to replace about 1,600 feet of aging water main beginning this week.
The company will upgrade aging water lines, installed as far back as the 1930s, with new, larger ductile iron main along Glenwood Avenue from North Union Avenue to Interstate 78 and the entire length of Morris Place. The project also includes replacing two fire hydrants and 26 utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route.
The company says this investment will continue to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in the community.
New Jersey American Water’s local, qualified contractor HC Constructors Inc. will begin work this week and expects to finish by the end of summer, weather permitting. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Final street restorations will be completed in the fall of 2020.
New Jersey American Water will also invest $800,000 in Neptune to replace about 3,200 feet of aging 2-inch and 6-inch water main beginning next week. The company will upgrade the aging water lines, installed as far back as the 1920s, with new, 8-inch ductile iron main along Sixth Avenue from Neptune Boulevard to Route 35. The project also includes replacing three fire hydrants and 54 utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route.
New Jersey American Water’s local, qualified contractor J. F. Kiely Construction Co. will begin work on or about March 15 and expects to finish by the end of May, weather permitting. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Final street restorations will be completed in early fall of 2020.
The company will also invest $630,000 to replace 1,350 feet of aging 6-inch water main in Fanwood beginning this week.

The project also includes replacing three fire hydrants and 28 utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route.
New Jersey American Water’s local, qualified contractor Montana Construction Inc. expects to finish work by the end of spring, weather permitting. Work hours will be from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday.
All three projects are part of New Jersey American Water’s multi-million-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.
