Camden-based New Jersey American Water is investing $3 million to replace about 11,500 feet of aging 6-inch water main in Howell this winter.
The public company will upgrade water lines, installed in the 1970s, with new, larger ductile iron main along the entire length of Darien Road, Darien Circle, Brookhill Drive, Nottingham Drive and Princeton Drive. The project includes replacing six fire hydrants and 190 utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route.
American Water says this improvement is part of its multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities.
New Jersey American Water’s local, qualified contractor, Perna Finnigan Inc., will begin work on or about Feb. 10 and expects to finish by the end of April, weather permitting.
