New Jersey American Water will replace about 1,850 feet of aging 4- and 6-inch water main in Camden this fall, including replacing six fire hydrants and 48 utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route.
The company will upgrade the aging water lines with larger ductile iron main along the following streets:
- South 20th Street from Federal Street to Boyd Street;
- Boyd Street from Carman Street to Berwick Street;
- Berwick Street from Boyd Street to Marlton Avenue;
- Cooper Street from East State Street to North 19th Street;
The $400,000 investment, according to American Water, will continue to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection.
New Jersey American Water’s local, qualified contractor, Pioneer Pipe Contractors, will begin work in mid-November and expects to finish by the end of January, weather permitting. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work outside of these hours is not anticipated unless required to maintain the project schedule. Final street restorations will be completed in the spring of 2020.
