After delays for final approvals pushed off last month’s originally scheduled debut, the new $2.7 billion Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport is finally set to open its doors to the public.
“The Port Authority is pleased to announce that the first flights out of Newark Liberty’s new, world-class Terminal A will commence on Jan. 12,” said Thomas Pietrykoski, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey director of corporate communications, in a statement.
The original Dec. 8 opening date was scrapped just days before because fire alarm and security systems had yet to pass their final tests.

NJBIZ was given a sneak peak of the new terminal during a media tour at the ribbon-cutting for the space, which features 1 million square feet, cutting edge technology and features, and plenty of Jersey flair.
When announcing the delay, Port Authority officials noted they expected the issues to be resolved quickly. And with a nod at avoiding the peak holiday season, were targeting early January for the opening.
The new terminal will initially launch with 21 of its 33 gates operational, with United Airlines, JetBlue, Air Canada and American Airlines offering service. Delta Air Lines is slated to join later this year.
“We look forward to welcoming passengers to this magnificent, state-of-the-art facility, where they will enjoy best-in-class functionality, inspiring public art, delicious local concessions, and a transformative experience from curb to gate,” Pietrykoski added.
