New Jersey American Water will begin upgrading its systems in Union and Bradley Beach beginning the week of Jan. 18, the company said in separate statements.

The work in Union will cost $1.45 million and involve the replacement of nearly a mile of the pipeline along the full length of Gray Ave., Brookside Ave., Minute Arms Rd. and Nixon Rd. The contractor, Lodi-based Montana Construction Inc., is expected to complete the project by the end of April, weather permitting, with road work likely to run through the end of the summer.

In Bradley Beach, New Jersey American will spend $600,000 to replace nearly 2000 feet of the 8-inch iron main along Fifth Ave. from Madison Ave. to Ocean Ave. The work by Vineland’s Perna Finnigan Inc. is expected to run until the end of March, weather permitting, with street restorations finished during the summer.

New Jersey American is a subsidiary of American Water and is the state’s largest investor-owned utility. Based in Camden, the company provides water and/or sewer services to 2.8 million people.
