The New Jersey Association of State Colleges and Universities board of trustees voted unanimously on Tuesday to appoint Gene Lepore III as executive director.
As the executive director of the NJASCU, Lepore will develop, implement and assess the strategic operations and opportunities of the association.
He will work with the association’s board to advocate on behalf of colleges to secure support, develop and monitor legislative proposals, and educate legislators and other partners and affiliated groups about the sector and its interests.
Lepore has worked in the New Jersey Senate Majority Office since 2006 as a senior research associate, director of budget and fiscal analysis, acting executive director, and deputy executive director. Lepore’s position is effective Jan. 27.
As deputy executive director in the Senate Majority Office, Lepore was responsible for collaborating and advising on legislative policy issues and directly representing New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney, D-3rd District. Lepore was also responsible for the operations, budget and communications of the New Jersey Senate and served as the chief liaison to the Governor’s Office, General Assembly and State Departments.
