The Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is expanding its board with an addition from the banking industry.

On Friday, SHCCNJ announced PNC Bank Executive Vice President and Retail Territory Executive for the East Territory Jeffrey Martinez as a member of its board of directors.

“[Martinez’s] 17-year trajectory in the banking industry and passion to help individuals through nonprofit organizations similar to SHCCNJ will be a great asset to our continuous development of education efforts for Hispanic business owners looking for support,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Carlos Medina in a prepared statement.

According to SHCCNJ, Martinez joined PNC Bank in 2014 after serving in the U.S. Army National Guard for nine years, where he was awarded three Army Commendation Medals and the New Jersey’s Distinguished Service Medal. At PNC, he is responsible for managing 1,200 branches along the East Coast, according to a statement from SHCCNJ Chairman Luis De La Hoz.

Prior to PNC, he held various positions at JPMorgan Chase for more than a decade, including first vice president, district manager, the chamber said. Martinez also works with nonprofits 1 Hear and CAALE, which aim to educate and fight against social issues, like human trafficking, SHCCNJ said.

According to the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce – No. 1 on NJBIZ’s most recent Chamber of Commerce list, ranked by New Jersey-based members, for the third year in a row – the group represents Latino businesses contributing more than $20 billion to the state economy.
