American Dream, the mega mall in the Meadowlands, announced just before Labor Day that it will reopen on Oct. 1, more than six months after its retail rollout was derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The complex may be the biggest and most visible property in the region, the site of one of the earliest and most severe outbreaks, but businesses of all sizes have been struggling to meet the challenges posed by the pandemic.
In the latest installment of NJBIZ Conversations, Editor Jeff Kanige spoke with Jim Kirkos, the chief executive officer of the Meadowlands Chamber, about American Dream, the old Izod Center arena and the regional economy in general. “We got other development projects still going,” Kirkos said. “There’s a couple of new hotels in the region that are advancing their projects and that tells me that the future will be OK. We just have to be really diligent and and collaborative as we work to get there.”
