Barbara Kauffman, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Newark Regional Business Partnership, joined us as the train to the capital was pulling out of Newark Penn Station. The location was appropriate given the role Kauffman’s organization plays in and around the state’s largest city.
“We are in essence a chamber of commerce,” Kauffman explained. “We’re based in Newark but our members come from all over Northern New Jersey — about fifty percent in Newark, fifty percent throughout the region.”
Kauffman is also president of Executive Women of New Jersey and she says the Chamber trip is useful in both of her roles. “To be able to have a thousand people in space for four hours … I can get a lot of business done.”
Listen below to hear Kauffman’s views on redevelopment in Newark and efforts to improve diversity in corporate leadership.
