NULLThe second phase, or Build Weekend, of the 2009 Masonry Design/Build Competition will begin at the New Jersey Institute of Technology School of Architecture in Newark on April 16. The competition  which kicked off with a design phase in February  will involve eight teams of the schoolÂs second-year architecture students collaborating with members of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Administrative District Council of New Jersey.
The students and professionals will together build a masonry element of each teamÂs design over the weekend of April 18 and 19. The student teams will make their final presentation on April 20, with the winners announced later that day.
The Design/Build competition, which was established in 2003 as part of the 30th anniversary of the architecture school, allows students to explore using various masonry materials as well as work with masonry trade professionals.
