Nordstrom Inc. plans to open new or relocate stores in Utah, Massachusetts, and Ohio this year.CHERRY HILL — Apparel retailer Nordstrom Inc. opened a new 138,000-square-foot store Friday at the Cherry Hill Mall. The two-level store is the retailer’s fifth in New Jersey.

Nordstrom hired 220 people from the area, said Nordstrom spokeswoman Nicole Pietromonaco; department managers were brought in from existing stores to oversee operations in Cherry Hill. All told, the new store will employ some 300 workers, she said.

The new store is comparable in size with other Nordstrom locations being built, but is much smaller than the retailer’s King of Prussia, Pa., store, which weighs in at 238,000 square feet, according to Pietromonaco.

Nordstrom plans to open new or relocate stores in Utah, Massachusetts, and Ohio this year, Pietromonaco said.

The new Cherry Hill store is Nordstrom’s second in the greater Philadelphia market after the 1996 opening of the King of Prussia location. Work on the Cherry Hill location began in 2006, Pietromonaco said.
