Not Yet VoIPed Out

Biz BriefsInternet phone company Vonage Holdings Corp. of Holmdel got some relief last week when a favorable court verdict allowed it to resume signing on new customers. A federal appeals court in Washington permanently stayed an April 6 decision by a district court that had prevented the company from taking on new customers as long as it was using technology associated with patents that Verizon Commuinications had successfully challenged in an infringement case.

As Vonage plods through appeals against that ruling, it will post a court-ordered $66 million bond and pay 5.5 percent royalty fees on the disputed technology every quarter into an escrow account.
