NRG Energy on Thursday announced that its NRG Home unit will have its first CEO and president, effective Dec. 1.Steve McBee, founder and CEO of Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm McBee Strategic Consulting, will take over the unit tasked with empowering residential energy consumers to generate their own electricity.
“Steve McBee has a proven ability to change industries, create an innovative business approach and drive reinvention,” David Crane, CEO and president of Princeton-based NRG Energy, said in a prepared statement. “He is just the leader we need to untether Americans from the socket and all that lies behind it.”
McBee was chosen after a crowdsourcing initiative launched earlier this year, which received more than 700 nominations.
“The world’s biggest problems need the world’s biggest solutions – and addressing global energy challenges is no different,” said McBee. “I am excited to join a company that, under David Crane’s leadership, understands that today’s global energy challenges represent an opportunity to build our business and change lives.”
