A environmental remediation and heavy civil construction firm in Ocean Township received the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2020 Prime Contractor of the Year Award for Region II.
Renova Environmental Services was nominated for the award by Sean Waldron, contracting officer for the U.S. Coast Guard Civil Engineering Unit – Providence, according to SBA Regional Administrator Steve Bulger. According to an announcement, the SBA selected Renova based on criteria that measuring its technical and management capability; financial strength; customer interface and support; innovativeness of products or services offered; and ability to deliver quality services on time and at a competitive cost to the U.S. Government.
Region II encompasses New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
President Paulo Rodriguez Heyman started Renova in 2006, and it’s since grown to 30 employees.
“During fiscal year 2019, the federal government awarded New Jersey small businesses like Renova Environmental Services $2.3 billion in federal contracts or 24.3% of the $9 billion in contracts that were awarded to all firms in the state, which exceeded the federal government’s goal of 23%,” said Bulger in a prepared statement. “It’s no secret that the federal government is the biggest purchaser of goods and services. Last year, the federal government purchased a record $133 billion in goods and services from small businesses. We firmly believe that small business owners who aggressively seek federal government contracting opportunities can put their companies on the path to achieving significant economic growth over time.”
With the SBA’s 8(a) Business Development program alone, Renova has secured 43 8(a) sole-source contracts for $24.7 million and another 20 non-8(a) contracts for $5.2 million with the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Interior and General Services Administration.
“If you want to compete for contracts with the federal government, then you have to develop an expertise and provide exceptional services to the U.S. Government like Paulo Rodriguez Heyman has done,” SBA New Jersey District Director Al Titone said.
