The renovation of the I-280/Route 21 interchange in Newark will be handled by Michael Baker Jr. Inc., a subsidiary of Michael Baker Corp., of Moon Township, Pa.
The state Department of Transportation contract, worth $12.3 million, will be for project management, roadway and bridge design, environmental permitting, and utility engineering. Six interchange ramps that are more than 60 years old will be replaced or rehabilitated in the project, according to an announcement.
Other deteriorating infrastructure like bulkheads, railings and signage also will be replaced as part of the project.
