New app for the iPhone lets designers access color palette out in the field.Pantone LLC, in Carlstadt, said Monday it developed software that turns Apple Inc.‘s iPhone into a portable color wheel.

The new application, or app, called MyPantone, is geared for designers who want access to Pantone’s color palettes when on the go. The app lets the designer review the company’s colors without the need for bulky guides, and contains the entire library of Pantone colors.

Users can extract colors from any photos stored on their iPhone to find the closest possible match among Pantone’s colors. The color palettes can also be shared with other iPhone users, sent via e-mail, and posted to social sites, including Facebook and Twitter. The app sells for $9.97, and is available now at Apple’s iTunes App Store.
