There are 20 county- and community-based COVID-19 testing sites throughout the state, and with the inclusion of private operators that number is growing.
Medicare patients will be able to schedule appointments to be tested for COVID-19, along with more than 40 other pathogens, through select Shrewsbury-based Passport Health locations.
Testing will begin April 10 and April 11 at the Piscataway location (371 Hoes Lane), and on April 13 at the Morristown location (290 Madison Ave.).
Additional Passport Health locations will be added in the near future. The test will be conducted by appointment only. Patients are asked to drive to the Passport Health parking lots in Morristown and Piscataway.
Registered nurses will administer a nasal swab that will identify a comprehensive panel of more than 40 pathogens, including COVID-19 and influenza. The company said that test results will be provided to patients within 36 hours.
Testing will be administered to Medicare patients only. The test is covered by Medicare, but there will be a $50 administration fee for processing the test.
Open indefinitely
The COVID-19 testing site located at Cooper’s Poynt Park in Camden, which opened April 1, is extending its testing operations and will remain open until further notice.
The site, operated jointly by Cooper University Health Care, Virtua Health, the Camden County Freeholder Board and Camden County Health Department, was originally slated to operate through mid-April, but based on current projections that has been extended.
“This testing site has become an important location serving the needs of the citizens of Camden County as we work together to fight the COVID-19 outbreak,” said Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli. “At this crucial time, it is important that this testing facility remain open to serve the public. Utilization will be closely monitored and if the need diminishes or other patient care needs emerge, the team will reevaluate the operation of the site.”
The site at 801 Delaware Ave. in Camden is open to county residents by appointment, who have symptoms and meet other criteria, and who have received a referral for testing from a medical provider. It operates Monday through Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.
