Biz BriefsA subsidiary of On Track Innovations (OTI) in Fort Lee, a provider of contactless smart-card technology, has been tapped by the Polish Public Printing Works to produce electronic passport inlays for citizens of Poland. Electronic passports feature microchips that carry the userÂs personal data as an added layer of identity authentication. OTIÂs ASEC subsidiary in Poland will provide the inlays, which will adhere to the covers of passports, allowing citizens identities to be verified with an electronic reader. Poland plans to issue its first electronic passports starting Aug. 28.
In July ASEC began delivering to the Transport Department of the City of Warsaw contactless tickets for public transportation and street parking in the city. Warsaw residents will use the electronic tickets to pay for bus and tramway service, and for on-street parking fees.
