Pine Brook-based Epoch Everlasting Play recalled all of its Calico Critters animal figurines and sets sold with small accessories after the toys were involved in the deaths of two children, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Altogether, the recall affects more than 3.2 million units sold at major retailers, such as Walmart as well as online at Amazon.com and calicocritters.com, between January 2000 to December 2021, the commission said in a March 9 notice.
The toy maker issued the recall after learning of three choking incidents involving the sets, including a 2018 death of a 2-year-old in New Mexico and a 2015 death of a 9-month-old in Japan, officials said.
The affected lot includes 54 item numbers that include animal figurines and toy sets that came with a colorful bottle and pacifier accessories. A full list can be found here.
The commission advised parents to take the recalled items away from their children immediately and contact Epoch Everlasting Play to receive a free replacement by calling 800-631-1272 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or emailing [email protected].
