Montgomery Township Mayor Devra Keenan, New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency Executive Director Melanie Walter and Somerset County commissioners joined developer PIRHL LLC on June 30 in Montgomery Township to celebrate the grand opening of the Apartments at Montgomery Crossing, a new affordable rental community.
The Apartments at Montgomery Crossing is a $22 million, 86-unit development for working families, seniors and professionals earning incomes at or below 60% of the Area Median Income.
This uniquely designed building will feature two-story and stacked flat apartments. Community amenities will include a community room, fitness and activity rooms, bike storage, on-site management and social services, playground and dog run. A supportive service program will be implemented for the development with a constant sensitivity to each family’s immediate needs, but also with an eye on their respective progress and ability to achieve personal development.

Lara Schwager, senior vice president of development for PIRHL, who served as the developer and general contractor on the project stated: “We are grateful to NJHMFA, Montgomery Township, Somerset County as well as our other financial and development partners for their support of this development. With resources for affordable housing being so limited, we are excited to deliver this beautiful community that will not only address the need for affordable housing in the township, but also represent what is possible through public-private partnerships. We are grateful of the Township’s commitment and partnership in this development.”
“This project is an outstanding example of cooperation between the private sector and local government,” said Keenan. “A strong working relationship among the construction team at PIRHL, Sharbell Development Corp., and Montgomery Township has produced high-quality, affordable housing close to public transit and our commercial center.”
