The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York Stewart International Airport, and bridges and tunnels in both states, broke records on the number of passengers and cargo shipments it saw in November 2019.
The agency reported a record number of passengers in November 2019, putting it on pace for an annual record of 142 million passengers for 2019.
Staten Island bridges, according to the agency, set a record with 297,000 vehicles in November 2019, a 4 percent increase from November 2018.
The four airports in the region saw more than 11 million passengers in November 2019, setting a record.
The Port of New York and New Jersey says it handled a record 599,626 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) in November 2019, a 4 percent increase over the previous November 2018 record of 583,880 TEUs. The Port Authority’s ExpressRail system also set a monthly record, handling 54,096 containers in November 2019 compared to the year-ago record of 53,609 containers in 2018.
November 2019 also had PATH handling a weekday passenger average of 290,130, the second-highest November monthly average weekday ridership on record. The agency reported seeing five weekdays in November 2019 when the daily ridership exceeded 300,000 passengers.
