Both held executive positions at other New Jersey banks.Jersey City-based Provident Financial Services has named Thomas W. Berry and Christopher Martin to its board of directors. Berry retired as a partner at Goldman Sachs in 1998 and was a founding director of Morristown-based Red Oak Bank before it was acquired by Union-based Union Center National Bank in May of 2005.
Martin will stay on as president of Provident, a post heÂs held since July of 2000. He previously served as president and CEO of Woodbridge-based First Sentinel Bancorp, which was acquired by Provident in July of 2004.
Provident Financial Services, a holding company for The Provident Bank, reported assets of $6.2 billion as of September 30, 2005. The bank, based in Jersey City, has 76 branches in northern and central New Jersey.
