The new PSE&G customer call center opened in Newark Wednesday, bringing 500 employees to the area.
The utilities company said this will serve as a boost to Newark’s growing economy.
The call center is located at company headquarters at 80 Park Plaza. The employees were previously spread out between two Union County locations.
“Bringing these customer operations employees to Newark is great news for our customers, our company and our headquarters city,” said Dave Daly, PSE&G president and chief operating officer in a statement. “The move enables us to keep our costs to customers low. It also supports our commitment to Newark’s growing economy and bright future.”
PSE&G has been headquartered in Newark for 116 years.
“We need Newark, its residents and businesses to thrive if Public Service is to thrive for another 116 years,” Daly said.
The call center takes up three floors at PSE&G headquarters. Call center employees are available 24/7 to answer questions from customers about their electric and gas service, respond to inquiries through social media channels, and handle the collection and other billing activities.
