Power generated by the Morristown-based company’s Energy-from-Waste facility in Newark will replace a current set-up at the stadium that uses conventional fossil fuel-generated electricity. The facility is less than 2 miles from the arena.

Energy-from-Waste utilizes waste from the local community and businesses to generate clean energy and is “the only major electricity source with a net-negative greenhouse gas footprint,” Covanta said. The change to renewable energy will reduce the Red Bull carbon footprint by an estimated 5,000 tons of carbon dioxide.

As part of the partnership, fans at Red Bull Arena will be able to learn more about sustainable waste management and its benefits through game-day activities, video, branded waste and recycling receptacles and more.
