According to a report Thursday, federal investigators probing the George Washington Bridge lane closure scandal have found no evidence linking Gov. Chris Christie to the closures that snarled traffic for several days last September. The NBC New York report says that, according to unnamed federal officials, nothing uncovered thus far has shown that Christie had any knowledge in advance of the lane closures. Still, officials told NBC New York, the nine-month investigation remains ongoing and “no final determination has been made.”
Earlier Thursday, prior to the report’s release, Christie took aim at the state legislative committee investigating the lane closures during a news conference in Trenton, saying it was time for them to “wrap up” their work. He added that he felt the committee was overly partisan and that the members “care more about being on television than they care about actually getting to the truth.”
Christie also appeared Thursday night on Townsquare Media’s monthly “Ask the Governor” program, saying that he was “not surprised” to hear about the contents of the NBC New York report.
The governor has long maintained that he had absolutely no prior knowledge of the lane closures and did not authorize them.
