Rider University’s Westminster Choir College is launching an online master of choral pedagogy program–a 31-credit course emphasizing pedagogical methodologies aimed to improve the vocal health of choral singers, the efficiency of rehearsals and the potential of performances.
The new program was announced August 4.
“There is no other degree program that educates the conductor as both artist and master teacher,” Grammy-nominated conductor James Jordan said. “Voice science and music learning theory are married into a relevant degree program that informs gesture and artistry through pedagogical expertise.”
Program graduates will have the opportunity to work with a variety of vocal ensembles as creative, thoughtful and technical musicians, the announcement said. Folks who already work in the field can strengthen their credentials with the most current advances in voice science, music psychology and conducting pedagogy.
According to the university, the master of choral pedagogy degree is a strong supplement to a traditional conducting or music education degree.
Applications can be submitted online.
