Royal Ingredients, the Swedesboro-based maker of sugar products, is potentially laying off up to 80 employees as it consolidates production operations in its Mexican facilities, according to a notice filed with the state. The federal WARN notice filed with the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development said, “The company is consolidating its production operations in its existing facilities in Mexico, the country in which its raw material is sourced.”
That could mean the loss of up to 54 production associate jobs, as well as others tied to the work at the Swedesboro facility.
The layoffs are scheduled for May 20, according to the notice. Certain affected employees will receive severance, the notice said, as well as any applicable rights to their retirement savings and health insurance.
WARN notices normally cover mass layoffs or facility closings as part of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1989.
