Motorola Solutions CEO Greg Brown will take over July 1 as chair of Rutgers University’s Board of Governors, university officials said. The Rutgers alumnus will succeed Gerald C. Harvey after being elected to the post during Thursday’s board meeting in New Brunswick, according to a news release. He had been vice chair of the governing body and is serving a term that expires in 2017.
Brown, who led the search in 2012 for Rutgers President Robert Barchi, had been vocal through the process about finding a candidate who understands how to work with the business community. He told NJBIZ early that year that public-private partnerships will be essential to the university’s future, especially in recruitment and research.
The 1982 Rutgers graduate joined Motorola in 2003 and become CEO in 2008, the news release said. He led the successful spinoff of the consumer-focused Motorola Mobility in January 2011 and now leads Schaumberg, Ill-based Motorola Solutions, a provider of mission-critical communications to government and enterprise customers.
