David Shipley joined Stevens & Lee in Princeton as co-chair its state and local tax group, the firm announced Jan. 25.
Shipley joins fellow co-chair Richard Botwright in leading the group, which serves a wide range of clients in complex state tax audits, controversy and litigation in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and across the U.S.
Shipley joins the firm in a time of steady growth. In August, John Maldjian and a team of patent professionals joined its growing Princeton and Bergen County offices; and Chair of the New Jersey Bar Association’s Tax Section Tiffany Donio joined the firm earlier in January.
Shipley has nearly three decades of experience in state tax law. He focuses his practice on representing clients in complex state tax controversies during audits, before administrative boards and in courts across the country. He provides multistate tax advice on business operations, assists with navigating the state tax implications of corporate mergers and acquisitions and consults with clients on pending state tax legislation and regulations.
Shipley is a frequent national speaker on multistate tax topics for many organizations as well as a member of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce and New Jersey Business and Industry Association’s Joint State Tax Committee. According to his hiring announcement, he frequently contributes to the legislative and regulatory efforts of both organizations.
