ShopRite supermarkets will now accept MasterCard’s contactless payment solution, PayPass, at over 200 of its locations. The system, which allows customers toShopRite supermarkets will now accept MasterCard’s contactless payment solution, PayPass, at over 200 of its locations. The system, which allows customers to tap a PayPass-enabled payment card on an electronic reader, does not require a signature for purchases of less than $25. Shoprite locations will continue to accept traditional magnetic-stripe payment cards, in addition to the PayPass cards. “We understand our customers lead very busy lives, and believe the implementation of MasterCard PayPass will help us cater to their lifestyle,” says Karen Meleta, director of corporate communications for Elizabeth-based Wakefern Foods, the merchandising and distribution arm of ShopRite. Currently, there are nearly 13 million PayPass cards and devices on the market. ShopRite serves more than 4 million customers each week.
