Financial website SmartAsset recently ranked New Jersey’s best places to retire, and those looking to kick back and relax in the Garden State may want to turn their gaze north.Englewood Cliffs, in Bergen County, came in first in the survey, with a score of 93.1 on SmartAsset’s “Best Place to Retire Index.” That ranked Englewood Cliffs as the No. 61 place to retire in all of America, SmartAsset said.
And another Bergen County borough, Westwood, was right behind, with a score of 91.6. That was good for 83rd in the national rankings.
The others making the grade were more representative of the state as a whole, however.

4. Marlton, Burlington County, 90.6 (No. 99 nationally)
5. Woodbury, Gloucester County, 90.5 (No. 101 nationally)
6. Absecon, Atlantic County, 90.5 (No. 104 nationally)
7. Newton, Sussex County, 90.4 (No. 107 nationally)
8. Morris Plains, Morris County, 90.4 (No. 108 nationally)
9. Paramus, Bergen County, 89.4 (No. 121 nationally)
10. Caldwell, Essex County, 88.6 (No. 138 nationally)
To determine its rankings, SmartAsset factored in tax rates, number of doctors’ offices, recreation centers and retirement centers, and the percentage of seniors per capita.
