Walter Higgins III retired from his position as chairman of the board at SJI after five years in the position, and stepping in to take on the role is a person who has served as a member of the board for four years.
On Friday, Folsom-based SJI said Joseph Rigby, the previous chairman, president and chief executive officer of Pepco Holdings Inc., was appointed chairman of the board.
Rigby served at Pepco until his own retirement in 2016; he was also previously chief financial and operating officer there.
“I am excited to work alongside Joe in his new role as chairman” SJI President and CEO Mike Renna said in a prepared statement. “His extensive experience and leadership in the energy industry, coupled with his down-to-earth, straight-forward approach fits perfectly at SJI and will continue to have a positive impact on the organization and help drive our long-term growth.”
Rigby is also a member of the board of Dominion Energy Inc. and a certified public accountant in the state of New Jersey, SJI said.
According to the energy services holding company, SJI Utilities delivers natural gas to approximately 700,000 customers in New Jersey and Maryland through South Jersey Gas, Elizabethtown Gas and Elkton Gas.
