Squire Patton Boggs is launching an international transactions practice in New Jersey as part of its global corporate practice.
Michael Helmer, who joins the from DLA Piper LLP, where he served as co-managing partner of the firm’s Short Hills office, will launch the practice.
Helmer’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, corporate governance and other commercial transactions with a concentration of clients in the energy and power, technology, life sciences and transportation sectors.
Helmer also acts as outside general counsel for clients and has experience in intermodal transportation and marine port terminal transactions. He represented Seaspan Corp., the world’s largest container ship owner, in its $750 acquisition of APR Energy earlier this year.
Over three decades, he’s handled hundreds of transactions representing purchasers, sellers, investors, lenders, management groups, special committees and others in a wide variety of industries and sectors.
“Mike brings substantial experience handling sophisticated international transactions for clients, as well as deep industry expertise that overlaps with several of our existing areas of focus,” said Americas Chair of the Global Corporate Practice Daniel Berick in a prepared statement. “His private equity and venture capital experience also builds upon our continued growth in those important areas. Helmer and New Jersey managing partner Mark Sheridan are former colleagues. They worked together at Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP in Florham Park from 1999 to 2001, according to LinkedIn.
