St. Joseph’s Health announced Friday it would provide assistance to the management team and employees impacted by the recent fire that destroyed the Marcal Paper Mill in Elmwood Park, three miles from St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson.
“We’re pooling all of our available resources to bring as much help as possible to our colleagues and neighbors at Marcal during this difficult time,” said Kevin Slavin, president and CEO of St. Joseph’s Health. “Passaic County has a proud history and strong bond among its neighboring businesses that have called this region home for so many decades. It’s a part of our mission to step-in and lend support in any way we can,” Slavin said.
St. Joseph’s is donating temporary office space for several dozen Marcal employees at its Garret Mountain location, enabling the company to restore some business functions and support for its employees.
Behavioral health counselors from St. Joseph’s will be available around the clock to provide support and assistance for Marcal team members affected by the incident.
St. Joseph’s management said that it would continue to work with Marcal leadership to determine additional needs.
