The New Jersey Department of Health said on Wednesday it is installing a monitor for Christ Hospital to provide daily oversight of its finances.

The monitor will be appointed through an agreement with the New Jersey Health Care Facilities Financing Authority.

In a statement, the department said its “mission is to ensure that all residents have access to health care services.”

Christ Hospital, a CarePoint Health facility, entered into an agreement in October 2019 to be acquired by RWJBarnabas Health.

Earlier this week talks broke down between the two entities.

RWJ Barnabas said that the owners of CarePoint Health rejected RWJBarnabas Health’s “fair and appropriate offer” for the acquisition of Christ Hospital and Hoboken University Medical Center. On Feb. 3, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop asked Gov. Phil Murphy to intervene to get the health care systems to work toward a resolution.

CarePoint Health said that it welcomed Fulop’s efforts and stated it has approached negotiations with “good-faith,” and welcomes the opportunity to return to the table.
