New Jersey ranks 13th among all states in net tech employment, at 7.8 percent of the state’s total workforce.
The average wage in the state’s tech industry is $122,830 – well above the state’s median household income of $76,126 in 2016, according the U.S. Census. The figure is also the fourth highest average wage for tech workers of all states.
New Jersey employs 337,900 tech workers and has 16,000 tech businesses. The state saw a 71.1 percent year-over-year jump in 2017 in the number of job postings in the tech sector. The study found the strongest gains in packaged-software employment, up 5.2 percent, and information technology and custom software services, up 2.1 percent.
