Toys R Us, Claire’s enter into retailing partnership

Toys R Us, the Wayne-based toy retailer, announced Wednesday that it has created a global strategic partnership with Claire’s, the specialty retailer of jewelry and accessories for young women and girls.The partnership will bring Claire’s products into select Toys R Us stores in the U.S. and Europe, including the flagship Toys R Us and FAO Schwarz sites in New York City.

“Claire’s has long been a destination for young fashion-forward shoppers looking to find the most trend-right accessories, and we’re delighted to bring their expertise to our tween business,” Antonio Urcelay, chairman and CEO of Toys R Us, said in a prepared statement. “We continue to explore new concepts that bring fresh merchandising content and offerings to our Toys R Us customers around the world.”

The New York locations will open this week, with 10 more locations in the U.S. expected to open by the end of October. None is scheduled for New Jersey at this time, however.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
