Trinitas Regional Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, looked to its own executive team for its next leader, the health care provider announced March 9.

Nancy DiLiegro, currently the Elizabeth hospital’s chief clinical officer, vice president of clinical operations and physician services, has been named president and chief executive officer, effective April 15.

She will succeed Gary Horan, who will retire next month after more than 21 years as the leader of the hospital. Trinitas Regional made Horan’s retirement announcement Jan. 12.

“We can think of no better leader for Trinitas Regional Medical Center than Nancy DiLiegro,” RWJBarnabas Health President and CEO Mark Manigan said in a statement. “Her track record of success at Trinitas is unparalleled and she was an instrumental partner in guiding the integration of this institution into the RWJBarnabas Health family last year.

“We anticipate many more great things to come from Trinitas in support of the greater Elizabeth and Union County communities under her leadership,” Manigan added.

DiLiegro, who said she was “honored and humbled” to take on the role, joined Trinitas in April 2002 as director of clinical operations. She was promoted to vice president of clinical services in 2008, and to vice president of clinical and physician services in 2009. She has been in her current position since 2013.

Before joining Trinitas, DiLiegro served on the management teams at Lenox Hill Hospital, Montefiore Medical Center and Our Lady of Mercy Healthcare System.

A recipient of numerous industry awards, DiLiegro also served on several boards, including the board of governors of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and is affiliated with numerous national and regional organizations, including American Heart Association, Greater Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Trinitas Regional was established in 2000 following the consolidation of Elizabeth General Medical Center and St. Elizabeth Hospital. The medical center joined West Orange-based RWJBarnabas Health in January 2022.
