Drivers expecting to see the full benefit of the New Jersey Turnpike widening project completion this weekend will have to wait until Sunday.Rain is to blame for the delayed opening of the additional northbound Turnpike lanes between exits 6 and 9. Weather-dependent work that was slated to be done Friday — lane striping, changing signs and moving barriers — was postponed.

The Turnpike Authority planned a ceremony for the opening Friday, which hasn’t been rescheduled. Neither has the opening of the southbound lanes the following weekend, according to the Turnpike Authority.

Friday’s ceremony will be held at the Molly Pitcher service area in Cranbury. Transportation Commissioner Jamie Fox, Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno and state Senate President Steve Sweeney have all announced that they’ll be in attendance.
