Travelers are returning to the skies, and United Airlines is ready to accommodate them with its brand-new, nearly 30,000-square-foot United Club at Newark Liberty International Airport — the largest club in United’s network.
According to the most recent TSA numbers, about 2.1 million travelers are flying daily as of May 18, as compared with 1.5 million this time last year.
“As more and more customers return to the skies, United is committed to delivering a superior customer experience on and off the plane, especially in increasingly crowded airports,” Aaron McMillan, United’s managing director of hospitality and planning, said in a statement.
The airline opened the club — located in Terminal C3 near gate C123 and complete with views of the Manhattan skyline — right before the Memorial Day holiday, one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.
To enter the club, according to United’s website, fliers must be a premium cabin customer traveling internationally or a business passenger on a premium transcontinental flight; hold a valid Star Alliance Gold membership card; have a one-time pass; be an active military member with a valid military ID and be dressed in uniform, have leave orders or rest and recuperation papers; or have an Air Canada Maple Leaf Club membership. Other qualifications may apply.
Additional features of the club include:
- More than 480 seats for lounging, working, private dining and socializing
- Six spa-like showers stocked with Sunday Riley products
- A full-service coffee shop experience staffed by a barista
- Self-scan entry and free, high-speed Wi-Fi
- Sustainable, green materials such as WaterSense-rated fixtures, enhanced indoor air quality, green cleaning and more.
The area is decked out with locally sourced furniture pieces and décor, as well as a design and color scheme that United will deploy in future new and refurbished clubs. In collaboration with The Newark Museum of Art and Gallery Aferro, the new club location features two murals created by local artists Gilbert Hsiao and Dahlia Elsayed.
“The Newark Museum of Art is honored to be a part of this remarkable tribute to our community and our city,” Linda Harrison, The Newark Museum of Art’s director and CEO, said in a statement. “May these tremendous artworks inspire and remind our residents and visitors of Newark’s role as a cultural hub for artistic excellence and community cultivation. We are so proud to contribute to this exciting unveiling and pay homage to our special city with these two extraordinary works of art.”
