Verizon Wireless opens its garden to software developers

Conference sets stage for third-party software use on company’s network.Verizon Wireless, in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards, on Tuesday hosted a conference in San Jose, Calif., inviting Silicon Valley software developers to hear the company’s plans for mobile applications. The Verizon Developer Community conference brought out more than 500 software designers from large and small companies interested in offering their programs through the Verizon Wireless network. Attendees heard from Verizon Wireless executives on the company’s approach to working with the developer community.

Verizon Wireless reaching out to application creators

Research In Motion co-Chief Executive Jim Balsillie was among the panelists and attendees at the conference.

The company held a similar conference in March 2008 in New York for third-party device makers.
