Vonage Equips More Subscribers with E911
Listen to this articleTechnology connects callers’ phone number with a corresponding address.Contra Costa County, Calif., subscribers of Internet-telephone company Vonageare now equipped with Enhanced 911 (E911) that connects a callerÂs phone number with a corresponding address when calling for emergency services.
In less than three months, Vonage has activated E911 at more than 400 local 911 call centers, allowing 84% its subscribers” lines to have the feature, according to the Holmdel-based company. As of June 30, Vonage had more than 1.8 million subscribers.
In June 2005 the Federal Communications Commission issued a rule requiring that all Internet-based telephone companies provide customers with the E911 service. Vonage shares dropped 19 cents to $6.62 this morning.
