Wakefern recalls chocolate-covered peanuts after mislabeling

Wakefern Food Corp. is voluntarily recalling its Bowl & Basket Chocolate Covered Peanuts after some packages were mislabeled as milk chocolate covered raisins.

Distributed at the Keasbey-based grocery cooperative’s banners including ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer, Gourmet Garage, Fairway and Dearborn Market, the affected product comes in a 12-ounce package with a UPC code of 04119007385.

In announcing the recall on March 17, Wakefern said, “A limited amount of the product was mislabeled on the front of the package as milk chocolate covered raisins when the package contained peanuts, a known allergen.”

A recall was issued “out of an abundance of caution,” said Wakefern, noting that, to date, there have been no reports of illness associated with the product.

Customers are being advised to return the item for an immediate refund or replacement.

Additionally, the company said it reached out to Price Plus club cardholders who purchased the product to alert them of the issue.
