“In addition to supporting our local food banks, we’re fortunate to be in a position to offer employment to those who are unexpectedly out of work. If you see yourself as a fit for Wegmans, whether it’s temporary or long-term, we want you on the team,” said New Jersey Division Manager Joe Sofia in a prepared statement.
Wegmans has expedited its hiring process to meet demand. The grocer offers comprehensive benefits and pay, and has ranked on Fortune’s Best Companies to Work For list. It placed third in 2020.
It’s not the only retailer hiring during the COVID-19 pandemic. CVS Health, Amazon, Wawa, Walmart, and ShopRite are also hiring as food retail continues to be considered essential. Instacart is hiring personal shoppers. And, New Jersey-based food companies such as Wakefern Food Corp. and Campbell Soup Co. have increased employee benefits and compensation.
