Who Says Talk Is Cheap?

Biz BriefsVerizon Wireless of Basking Ridge last week placed a $6 billion order with communications equipment and services company Alcatel-Lucent for a wide variety of network gear, software and services to be supplied over three years. The equipment will help Verizon Wireless expand its broadband data network and introduce new services.

With this deal, Alcatel-Lucent has ensured that it remains the primary network infrastructure supplier for Verizon Wireless.

Alcatel-Lucent of Paris, a $25 billion company, has its U.S. headquarters in Murray Hill and was formed last November when the two companies merged. Alcatel-Lucent’s shares edged up about 30 cents to $11.80 after the deal’s announcement.
