FedEx Ground contracts with 6,000 independent service providers throughout the U.S. and Canada to get the job done, and it recently honored those that stood out from the rest.

The company’s Entrepreneur of the Year award “recognizes businesses for valuing safety above all, delivering excellent customer service, building dedicated and engaged teams, and responsibly growing their companies,” according to a statement.

Woodbridge-based LLP Express was among the top 40 regional qualifiers recognized for business excellence in 2021 and 2022. Six overall winners were selected from this group.

“FedEx Ground has worked successfully with thousands of independent service provider companies to connect businesses and people in the marketplace,” John Smith, president and CEO of FedEx Ground, said in a statement. “The past two years have been transformational for our business and our service providers, and they’ve stepped up to the opportunity as e-commerce growth continues to change the delivery landscape.”

Founded in 2017, LLP Express is led by authorized officer Leonardo Lopez, employs 30 people and maintains a fleet of 27 tractors.

After initial safety training, drivers are required to complete the work monthly, as well. They also receive unscheduled visits, ride-alongs and virtual rides via VEDR technology. The company provides seven-day route coverage and drivers are required to work two weekends per month, which creates a rotation for consistent availability. Constant vehicle and equipment checks are also mandatory.

“Our strong team is always willing to assist in a timely and professional manner,” Lopez said in a statement.

In addition to professional accomplishments, LLP employees donate school supplies, sneakers and clothing to children in the Dominican Republic, as well as toys and bikes to local children during the holidays. During the COVID-19 pandemic, LLP Express also purchased food for those in need.
